Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 unit egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 3/4 cup colored sugar for decoration

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
  3. In a larger mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, white sugar, and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth and fluffy.
  4. Add in the egg and beat until well combined. Gradually incorporate the dry mixture into the wet ingredients, blending thoroughly.
  5. Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into small balls, placing them onto ungreased baking pans, leaving space between each ball.
  6. Flatten each dough ball gently using the bottom of a glass. Sprinkle generously with colored sugar for decoration.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 8 to 10 minutes, or until they are lightly golden around the edges.
  2. Allow the cookies to cool on wire racks before serving.

Notes

Pro tips: Chill the dough for 30 minutes for better shape; add extracts like coconut or lemon for variation; use cookies for ice cream sandwiches.
