  • 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced Any variety of mushrooms can be used.
  • 1 cup brandy (optional; can substitute with broth) Brandy adds depth of flavor, but broth works well too.
  • 1 medium onion, chopped Use a yellow or white onion for sweet flavor.
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced Adjust garlic according to taste.
  • 2 cups beef broth Low sodium recommended.
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce This adds umami to the dish.
  • to taste Salt and pepper Adjust seasoning to your preference.
  • as needed Fresh parsley for garnish Add just before serving for freshness.

Method

Preparation
  1. Season the beef: Generously season the beef steak with salt and pepper.
  2. Sear the steak: In a skillet over medium-high heat, sear the steak on both sides until it’s beautifully browned.
  3. Sauté the vegetables: Remove the steak and set it aside. In the same skillet, sauté the onions and garlic until fragrant. Add the sliced mushrooms and cook until soft.
  4. Deglaze the pan: Pour in the brandy, scraping the bottom of the skillet to release any tasty bits. Let it simmer for a few minutes.
  5. Combine in the slow cooker: Add beef broth and Worcestershire sauce to the skillet, mix well, and pour over the seared steak in the slow cooker.
  6. Slow cook: Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours.
  7. Garnish and serve: Garnish with freshly chopped parsley and enjoy.

Notes

For thicker sauce, mix 1 tablespoon of cornstarch with cold water and add to the slow cooker about 30 minutes before serving. Consider adding more vegetables for added nutrition.
