Method
Preparation
- In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, garlic, ginger, and sesame oil.
- Add the beef strips to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Let them sit for about 10 to 15 minutes.
Cooking
- Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté until soft and slightly caramelized. Season with salt and pepper, then remove and set aside.
- Increase heat to high and add 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil to the same skillet. Once hot, add the marinated beef strips and stir-fry for 2 to 3 minutes until browned.
- In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, and cornstarch until well combined. Pour this sauce over the beef and stir well, allowing to simmer until the sauce thickens.
- Reintroduce the sautéed onions (and peppers if using) back into the pan. Stir everything until well combined and heated through.
- Serve hot over a bed of steamed rice or noodles.
Notes
Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. For longer storage, freeze for up to two months. Reheat in a skillet over medium heat.
