Preparation
- Gather all your ingredients.
- In a stand mixer bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, warm milk, melted butter, and salt.
- Use a dough hook to mix on medium speed for 4 to 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Cover the bowl and let the dough rise in a warm space for 30 to 60 minutes until it doubles in size.
- Preheat your oven to 450°F and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
Boiling and Baking
- Bring 9 cups of water and baking soda to a boil in a large pot.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide into 12 equal pieces.
- Roll each piece into a rope approximately ¾ inch thick and cut into 1 to 2-inch pieces.
- Carefully drop each piece into boiling water for about 30 seconds.
- Transfer bites to the prepared baking sheets and brush with egg wash, sprinkling with salt.
- Bake for 12 to 14 minutes until golden brown.
- Let them cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Freeze baked bites for up to 3 months, reheating in oven at 350°F for 10 minutes.
