Ingredients

For the Mug Cake
  • 5 tablespoons Nutella This is the star ingredient; use high-quality Nutella for best results.
  • 1 large egg For a vegan version, substitute with 2 tablespoons of milk + 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil.
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder Unsweetened cocoa powder is preferred for richer flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour Can be replaced with a 1:1 gluten-free blend.
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder Provides lift to the cake.
  • 1 tablespoon Nutella (for the center) Don't skip this part; it's essential for the gooey texture.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large, wide mug, mix 5 tablespoons of Nutella and 1 large egg with a fork until combined.
  2. Add 1 tablespoon of cocoa powder, 1 tablespoon of flour, and 1/4 teaspoon of baking powder to the mug. Mix well to ensure there are no dry pockets of cocoa.
  3. Add 1 tablespoon of Nutella in the center of the batter without mixing it in.
  4. Microwave the mug on medium power for 90 seconds. If still liquidy, microwave in 15-second increments until set but still gooey in the center.
  5. Let the cake cool for about a minute before digging in. Optionally, add a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.

Notes

Choose a wide, microwave-safe mug for even cooking and avoid overcooking to prevent a rubbery texture. Clean the mug immediately after use to avoid hard-to-clean chocolate residue.
