  • 1 pound ground beef Use lean ground beef for a healthier option.
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cups cooked pasta (such as penne or elbow macaroni) Make sure pasta is cooked and drained.
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes, drained
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (like cheddar or mozzarella) Feel free to mix different cheeses.
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef along with the chopped onion over medium heat until it is no longer pink. Drain any excess fat from the skillet.
Mixing
  1. Stir in the cooked pasta, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix everything until well combined.
  2. Transfer the mixture into a greased baking dish. Top it with shredded cheese.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  2. Allow the casserole to cool for a few minutes before serving to ensure it holds its shape.

Notes

Feel free to customize with your favorite vegetables or swap the pasta for rice or quinoa. This casserole can also be made ahead of time and stored in the fridge until ready to bake.
