Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour your chosen cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition to ensure they are fully incorporated.
  4. Stir in the milk and vanilla extract, blending until smooth.
  5. In another bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt to remove any lumps and ensure even mixing.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the cake light and fluffy.
  7. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans and smooth out the tops with a spatula.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
