Ingredients

Cake Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups sugar
  • 0.5 cups unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 3 large eggs
  • Food coloring (optional)
Frosting and Decorations
  • Frosting (vanilla or chocolate)
  • Decorative items (e.g., graduation caps, cake toppers, edible glitter)

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the sugar and butter until smooth and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well with each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In another bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this mixture to the creamed mixture, alternating with milk. Mix until just blended.
  5. If you want colorful layers, divide the batter into separate bowls and add food coloring to create different shades.
  6. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans.
Baking
  1. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  2. Let the cakes cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring them onto wire racks to cool completely.
Decorating
  1. Once cooled, frost the cakes as desired and decorate with graduation-themed items for that final touch.

Notes

Experiment with flavors by adding lemon or orange zest. Consider using gluten-free flour for dietary restrictions. Enhance decoration with fresh fruits or edible flowers.
