Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups sugar
  • 0.5 cups unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 4 large eggs
Decoration Ingredients
  • Fondant or buttercream for decoration
  • Food coloring (optional for decoration)
  • Graduation-themed decorations (like caps or diplomas)

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar with an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, ensuring each is fully incorporated before adding the next. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In another bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this dry mix to the creamed mixture while alternately pouring in the milk. Mix until well combined without overmixing.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pans and smooth out the tops for even baking.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for about 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.
  2. After baking, let the cakes cool in their pans for about 10 minutes before carefully transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.
Decoration
  1. Once completely cooled, decorate as desired with fondant or buttercream, adding any graduation-themed decorations for a festive touch.

Notes

To make the cake gluten-free, substitute the all-purpose flour with a 1-to-1 gluten-free baking blend. Experiment with adding flavors like lemon zest or cocoa powder to the batter for a unique twist. These variations and tips ensure a memorable graduation cake.
