Preparation
- Combine the water, butter, sugar, and salt in a medium-sized pot over medium heat. Stir until it comes to a boil.
- Once boiling, add the flour to the pot all at once. Stir vigorously until the dough pulls away from the sides and forms a ball.
- Remove from heat and let the dough cool slightly. Mix in the vanilla extract after a couple of minutes.
- Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 5 minutes.
- Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a star tip.
Cooking
- Pipe small bite-sized pieces of dough onto parchment paper, ensuring they are spaced apart.
- Lightly spray each piece with cooking spray.
- Place the bites in the air fryer basket and cook for 8-10 minutes until golden brown and puffed.
- Immediately toss the warm churro bites in the sugar and cinnamon mixture and serve warm.
Notes
For variations, consider different flavors or dipping sauces like chocolate or caramel. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to two days at room temperature, or refrigerate for up to a week. Reheat in the air fryer for best texture.
