Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 large apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or your favorite variety) Choose firm apples for best texture.
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour Can substitute with gluten-free flour.
  • 2 large eggs, beaten For coating.
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs Or regular breadcrumbs.
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • to taste Cooking spray For air frying.
For the Dipping Sauce
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce Optional.
  • 1/2 cup vanilla yogurt Optional for a lighter option.

Method

Preparation
  1. Start by washing the apples thoroughly. Cut them into wedges that are about a half inch thick, ensuring to remove the core and seeds.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the cinnamon and sugar. Prepare three separate bowls: one filled with flour, the second with the beaten eggs, and the third with panko breadcrumbs combined with half of the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  3. Take each apple slice, dredge it in flour, dip it into the beaten egg, and finally coat it with the breadcrumb mixture, ensuring each slice is evenly covered.
Cooking
  1. Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Place the breaded apple slices in the fryer basket in a single layer. Lightly spray them with cooking spray.
  2. Air fry for about 8-10 minutes, flipping them halfway through until they reach a crispy texture.
Serving
  1. Once done, remove the hot apple fries from the air fryer and sprinkle the remaining cinnamon-sugar on top. Serve immediately with your choice of caramel sauce or vanilla yogurt for dipping.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2-3 days. To reheat, place them in the air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for about 5 minutes.
