  • 1 pound cube steak Tenderized beef cut, traditional choice
  • 1 cup buttermilk For marinating
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour For dredging
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder For flavor
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder For flavor
  • 1 teaspoon paprika For flavor
  • to taste Salt and pepper For seasoning
  • Vegetable oil For frying
  • Gravy For serving (optional)

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Marinate the cube steak in buttermilk for at least one hour, or ideally overnight in the refrigerator.
  2. In a shallow dish, combine the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and a pinch of salt and pepper.
Cooking
  1. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat until hot.
  2. Remove steak from buttermilk, allowing excess liquid to drip off, then dredge in the flour mixture.
  3. Carefully place the coated steak in the hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 3-5 minutes per side.
  4. Remove the steak and let it drain on paper towels. Serve hot with gravy if desired.

Notes

For extra crunch, consider double dredging the steak. You can also experiment with spices and gravy variations such as mushroom or jalapeƱo gravy.
