Ingredients

Marinade Ingredients
  • 1 cup buttermilk Can substitute with non-dairy milk and add vinegar or lemon juice for tang.
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
Frying Ingredients
  • 4 pieces chicken breasts Can substitute with boneless thighs for added juiciness.
  • 1 cup flour Consider adding herbs for extra flavor.
  • Oil for frying oil Use enough to cover the bottom of the pan.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, combine buttermilk, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder to create the marinade.
  2. Add the chicken breasts to the marinade. Cover and let soak in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.
Cooking
  1. Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Test the oil temperature by adding a small amount of flour; it should sizzle.
  2. Remove the chicken from the marinade, allowing excess to drip off. Dredge each piece in flour until fully coated.
  3. Fry the chicken in the hot oil for about 6-8 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and fully cooked, ensuring an internal temperature of 165°F.
  4. Drain on paper towels and serve hot.

Notes

For extra flavor, add hot sauce to the marinade or try baking the chicken at 400°F for 20-25 minutes for a healthier option. Serve with mashed potatoes, on a bun, or with a side salad.
